LOVE IS LIKE THAT
by Virgil Hurley
Available as E-book from smashwords.com .
Also a POD (paperback) copy is available at createspace.com .

Love is Like That is a compilation of stories from history, current events and personal experiences. It not only recites the story but applies the meaning of love each one surfaces. It understands that mortals often use only its lesser meanings, but keeps in focus love’s ultimate spiritual nature, influence, and prowess.

AVOIDING THE JUDAS COMPLEX
by Virgil Hurley
(available from smashwords.com )

The Judas Complex has many synonyms. Judas seems to have nothing in common with Christian believers. However, church surveys show that believers have false ideas about Jesus. That ignorance is but one example of the Judas Complex. This book aims to describe the Complex, to explain how it can be avoided, how it can be contained if it’s in our lives, and how it can be banished once contained.

BOOKS

THEIR OWN BEST DEFENSE
by Virgil Hurley
(available from Redemption Press and Amazon.com and Kindle version)

Throughout history, many have questioned the integrity of the Bible’s account of Jesus Christ. Although most conclude that Jesus is a historical figure, they still debate the historicity of the four Gospels.

Their Own Best Defense is the first in a series of books that will examine the authenticity God’s Spirit bountifully sowed throughout the four Gospels. The study will prove that every text in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John reveals multiple, substantial, and objective evidences that the writers accurately recorded the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
This book will encourage Bible-believing disciples to continue teaching the reality of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Gospels and challenge skeptics to examine their motives in denying the Gospels’ historicity.

You will see that:
• Christianity is about a real person who lived in a real time.
• In Jesus Christ, God spoke historically, clearly, and emphatically, revealing himself as truth.

PREACHING AND TEACHING RESOURCES

THE JOY OF GENEROSITY
Stewardship Sermons / Outlines
(available from our store)

Preaching stewardship sermons often terrifies pastors and irritates congregations. To escape the former and placate the latter, pastors don't preach the subject. However, our financial accountability to God remains essential to discipleship.

The Joy of Generosity provides sermons that scripturally and pleasurably remind Christians of our privilege in giving to God. When allied with consistently strong preaching that leads disciples to a deeper life in Christ, these periodic reminders will lead them to more generously support God's work.

PARABLES OF JESUS
Thirty Three Lessons / Sermons
(available from our store)

The Parables of Jesus offere brief but substantial insights into one of Christ's favorite methods of teaching. They are arranged in lesson and sermon form for use in classroom or pulpit.

GOOD NEWS OF GREAT JOY
Fifteen Christmas Sermons with Outlines
(available from our store)

The Christmas season offers Christians an opportunity to explain the reason we have such hope in Christ. With the season so commercialized and sentimentalized, believers must emphasize that Christmas is "all about" God sending his One and Only Son to save the world from sin.

May these message help you proclaim that Good News.

UNITY IN CHRIST
Fourteen Sermons From EPHESIANS 4
(available from our store)

As the most important part of his teaching, Paul devotes major areas of his epistles to doctrine. It gives the correct view of God. It helps us understand God exactly. It specifically outlines his demands on us—how we should behave, what to believe, how to relate to others. Then, from the profound doctrinal sections, he draws the necessary inferences for everyday life.

So it is in Ephesians. The first three chapters contain some of the most learned doctrinal statements in scripture. The significance of the church, the all‑encompassing ministry of Christ, the reconciliation of Jew and Gentile, the means of grace to save us, the joy of living by faith and not by works, are a few of the doctrines taught in these chapters.

Then, in chapter 4, and basing his application on the great doctrines of chapters 1-3, Paul calls for unity within the body of Christ that enables each congregation to function constantly at full speed.

WITH THIS RING
Ten Wedding Ceremonies
(available from our store)

A minister, of all community leaders, interfaces with people in crises, when they're generally most open to spiritual guidance. While weddings are more intimate than critical, they offer excellent opportunities for counseling.

Alas, most ceremonies provide only superficial clichés that make a wedding forgettable.

These ten ceremonies shun that failing and apprise the bride and groom of the spiritual implications of their union.

May God bless their use in your pastorate as you seek to make the wedding ceremony a message, not just a formality.

A VERY PRESENT HELP
Thirty‑three Funeral Sermons (Plus Committals)
(available from our store)

A Very Present Help is a celebration of life in God's Son. The messages candidly confess the traumatic soul‑shocking, life‑changing alterations that death brings. We can't lose loved ones without grieving the loss.

More importantly, from our loss to God's consolation, A Very Present Help draws the afflicted. In him our tears dry, our sorrows cease, our hope renews. Preach life in the Son at all times...even at funerals...even when the unsaved die...even when many unsaved are present...they need to hear it most.

THREE MEN AND A KINGDOM
Thirty-One Expository Messages & Outlines from I SAMUEL
(available from our store)

A Child Of Promise...A Mournful End, the first and last sermons in I Samuel, encapsulate the meaning of the book. Out of a depraved spiritual life God called young Samuel to found a renewed hope. To allow young David an opportunity to rule in righteousness God removed Saul, who insisted on ruling profanely.

I Samuel powerfully relates to our society, even though it emerged in one totally different from ours. Warnings against envy; the peace prayer brings; the joys of worship; the dangers of favoritism in the family‑‑and much more, all from the first two sermons!

I've followed a simple procedure in developing these messages: find the central theme of each chapter or account; build the sermon around it, then apply the lessons to our daily life. You can personally profit from this literature. And, if you, your people.

LIGHT OVERCOMING SHADOW
Expository Messages/Outlines from II SAMUEL
(available from
our store)

II Samuel, the story of: a new king who willingly ruled in part, awaiting God’s call to rule entirely; magnificent victories over previously unconquered enemies; the establishment of a personal capital that still resonates with meaning; an innocuous gesture of sympathy turned to unrivaled disaster; a sword unsheathed and gory with blood; pride that demanded an accounting, and of repentance that accepted discipline; the establishment of an Imperial reign fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ.

II Samuel follows the procedure of its predecessor: find the central theme of each chapter, build a message around it, then apply the meaning to our daily life. Good reading; and God’s blessings as you share it with others.

WHY EVERYONE SHOULD BE A CHRISTIAN
Fourteen Sermons that Stress the Value of our Faith
(available from our store)

The unbeliever should always be able to observe the distinction between the Christian faith as a revealed concept and the Christian's effort to reproduce it in his own life. Faith should change its believers and, the better the faith, the more superior its adherents should be. Therefore, the Christian should reproduce in his own life all the excellence that characterized Christ's.

However, our Christian life often suffers from its inadequacies. Christ as often finds us his unspoken enemies as his announced foes. We fail to realize in our lives what he so masterfully idealized in his. Nevertheless, as this series of sermons proves, the Christian life provides a stimulating, pertinent and bountiful lifestyle, worthy of everyone's consideration. Imperfect, creaky and incomplete as we make it, it nonetheless easily outdistances any alternative the world offers. For all its human‑imposed frailties, it retains the excellence of its origins and relates to every age. For the sign Christ brought to his generation remains the compelling sign in ours: the Christ‑life.

INSIDE THE VEIL
Communion Devotionals
(available from our store)

Inside The Veil is a book of communion meditations, useful to worship leaders, elders and
minister in preparing Christians for a worthy participation in the Lord’s Table.

While Christ is the center of worship, each feature of worship offers its own celebration of his sacrifice and resurrection. May God use these devotionals to deepen the appreciation of your people to their privilege. God Almighty allows us within the veil, into his very presence.

GIFTS FOR THE GIVER
Fifty Offering Devotionals
(available from our store)

Gifts For The Giver is a book of offering meditations, ideal for use by worship leaders preceding the worship of God in tithes and offerings.

Strangely, churches show as much reluctance to use offering as willingness to use communion devotionals. Why I can't imagine. Worshiping God through giving our money is just as spiritual as worshiping him by participating in the Lord's Table.

I trust that these brief, specialized meditations will enlarge the stewardship capacity of your people. Use them to exalt the grace of giving to our Benefactor.

BIBLE READER'S THEATER
A Compilation of Bible Accounts that Dramatize Specific Bible Events
(available from our store)

Involving lay people in the worship experience deepens both pastor and membership. Bible Reader's Theater offers that opportunity. With preparation, (and coaching in dramatic reading) members of the congregation can read the Bible passage; the minister offers an introduction, then makes applications of the text. It’s an outstanding alternative for any worship service. Your people will want to do it again, having done it once. I encourage you to have as director of the readers someone with dramatic awareness. The passages should be dramatized, not just read. The Bible Reader’s Theater offers a compilation of Bible accounts that dramatize specific Bible events. To use the Theater most productively, emphasize drama in reading, not just reading. The Theater offers accounts where insight into the characters is a must. My prayer is that the Theater will enable you to dramatize these accounts in such a lively, realistic way that your people will want to personally read the BOOK of God. All to know him who to know is to have everlasting life.

FORTY DAYS WITH JESUS
Discipleship Course (Teacher's Guide & Student Lessons)
(available from our store)

Forty Days With Jesus is a discipleship course useful for Bible School classes and small groups. Having someone lead the course would be helpful, but any interested disciple would profit by individually studying it. It consists of Eight Major Lessons, each with five studies designed to help Christians overcome a particular temptation. Each lesson has a scripture text, promotes scripture memorization and includes a time for Introspection. Each day's lesson takes approximately 20 minutes.
